Expert Voices on Culturally Relevant Care

“Mental health thrives with a holistic approach. Evidence-based therapies provide a solid foundation, while integrating mindful nutrition and practices nurtures the mind, body, and spirit, fostering complete well-being. By combining science with cultural wisdom, we create care that is accessible, personalized, and deeply transformative—ensuring that mental wellness is not just a goal, but a way of life.”

— Dr. Mina Husain Advisor
General Adult Psychiatrist
Assistant Professor | University of Toronto
Independent Film Producer | Dia Productions

“Research consistently shows that culturally adapted therapies lead to better engagement and outcomes. Evidence-based psychosocial interventions are a human right, not a privilege. By integrating proven techniques with a deep understanding of cultural values, these approaches reduce barriers, foster trust, and create equitable pathways to mental health care.”

— Dr. Farooq Naeem Advisor, Sukoon

Sukoon offers therapy, nutrition, and fitness services designed to support your holistic well-being:

Therapy: Provided by Psychotherapists, Social Workers, and/or Psychologists, all trained in Culturally Adapted Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CaCBT).

Nutrition: Delivered by Registered Dietitians and Nutritionists, with plans that include South Asian dishes tailored to your health goals and lifestyle.

Fitness: Led by Yoga and Meditation practitioners, incorporating traditional South Asian wellness practices for mental and physical balance.

Culturally Adapted Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CaCBT) integrates cultural context into traditional CBT methods to make therapy more relevant and effective. At Sukoon, all our therapists undergo specialized training in CaCBT to ensure your therapy is sensitive to cultural values and traditions.

Our nutritionists and dietitians create personalized dietary plans that include South Asian dishes and ingredients, tailored to suit your lifestyle, health goals, and dietary needs.

Sukoon’s services are not covered by provincial health plans (e.g., OHIP). However, many extended health insurance plans cover sessions with Registered Social Workers, Psychotherapists, Psychologists, Registered Dietitians and Nutritionists and more.

Currently, we do not directly bill insurance companies. However, we are actively working towards offering this option in the future. Until then, you will need to submit your receipts for reimbursement from your insurance provider. After each therapy session, you will automatically receive a receipt via email, and a copy will also be stored in your account for your records

We require a minimum of 48 hours' notice for any cancellations or rescheduling requests. Failure to provide adequate notice may result in a charge for the missed appointment. To reschedule or cancel, please contact us via phone or email.

Standard sessions are 50 minutes in duration. You also have the option of booking extended sessions lasting 75 minutes. To ensure your first session is utilized effectively, please complete the assessment form and submit any required consent forms prior to your appointment.

The number of sessions required varies greatly depending on individual needs and goals. Factors such as the complexity of your concerns and the desired outcomes will influence the duration of therapy. We recommend continuing therapy as long as you and your therapist feel it is beneficial and contributing positively to your well-being.

Your safety and security are our top priorities. We are fully compliant with PHIPA and PIPEDA. Sukoon utilizes the Jane App, a secure third-party telehealth platform, for all online therapy sessions and to securely store all client information. For complete details regarding our privacy and security practices, please review our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy before your first session.

We hope to very soon. Currently, we are only offering services in Ontario.
