Sania Naqvi
Registered Social Worker,
Psychotherapist

RSW

I have spent over 20 years working in complex healthcare settings, including acute care, ambulatory care, and primary care in both Alberta and Ontario. Through this experience, what resonates with me the most is that people heal faster when they feel heard and validated, not just treated.

My inspiration to become a Therapist came from working with various client populations and assisting them in removing socio-economic barriers to treatment. I found that also helping clients with their mental health, along with their psychosocial concerns, led to a more holistic treatment approach. For clients coping with a medical diagnosis, chronic illness, prenatal or post-partum concerns, or caregiver burnout, addressing the mental health impact of these is crucial.

Unfortunately, when it rains it pours! We are often dealing with multiple issues at once. Anxiety and depression, along with other stressors often shape our lived experience. Dealing with grief and trauma is not a linear process, rather it comes in waves and can be triggered unexpectedly. If any of this resonates with you, know that you do not have to navigate this alone.

As a second-generation Pakistani immigrant, I am familiar with the challenges that can arise when balancing personal needs, with cultural and religious norms. There can be an inherent pressure to assimilate, while still maintaining your family values. The guilt associated with prioritizing your own needs can be challenging, and bridging the cultural gap can prove difficult.

Therapy can be daunting. I excel at building rapport and making you feel at ease. We set treatment goals collaboratively, at your pace. I provide tangible strategies that you can implement, in order to decrease your symptoms. I strive to provide a comfortable environment where you feel heard and validated.

I utilize various evidence-based treatment modalities, catered to your individual needs. I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Trauma-informed care, rooted in a person-centered and strength-based approach.

I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from McGill University, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Victoria. I am a Registered Social Worker in both Alberta and Ontario. I have been practicing for over two decades, working with adults from diverse backgrounds, across both clinical and community healthcare settings.
